Deck the Halls... SAFELY!

The best and safest time to hang Holiday lights is when the weather isn’t too cold or wet. Climbing a slippery ladder onto your roof is unsafe! It can be an exciting time, preparing for the holidays but if the weather calls for hot cocoa and interior decorating, that's okay!

A few tips to keep in mind before you begin:

  • Only use outdoor lights outside and indoor lights inside. Check the box of lights before purchasing to be sure that you have selected the right type of lights.

  • Try to steer clear of any power lines outside while hanging decorations and lights.

  • Avoid heaters, fireplaces, candles and any flammable items - this can be a fire hazard!

  • Always have a partner to hang lights! It is important to have an extra person around in case of any accidents.

  • For every 4 ft of ladder height, space the ladder 1 ft away from the house for a sturdy set-up. This will decrease the likelihood of falling or the ladder becoming unstable.

  • Do not use nails or staples to hang lights on house. Check for gutter clips as an easy way to attach lights to your home!
